According to legend, in the 1920s, a group of women from Los Teques, Venezuela, began making these snacks by wrapping leftover dough around cheese and frying them for a crunchy, cheesy delight.
Today, tequeños have become an ambassador of Venezuelan cuisine worldwide, preserving a piece of home for Venezuelans abroad and introducing new audiences to this delicious part of the country’s culinary heritage.
